After every natural disaster, a significant question looms: How can we help survivors desperate for relief? The latest Category 4 hurricane to devastate U.S. soil was Hurricane Michael, which made landfall in Mexico Beach, Florida on October 10th and left unimaginable destruction in its path. As part of our ongoing Pass the Light initiative, we partnered with Delivering Good, a humanitarian organization that truly lives up to its name. Les Jardins Solar donated 114 portal solar modules to Delivering Good, and they distributed them to address the immediate needs of individuals and families impacted by the hurricane’s life-shattering aftermath.

Electricity is often scarce in the event of an emergency, and solar lighting provides a crucial light source during the power outages that inevitably ensue. Solar-powered lanterns are especially useful for search and rescue efforts, nighttime evacuations, signaling whereabouts to emergency personnel, and comforting pets and young people. Nearly 7,500 people are still without power more than three weeks after Hurricane Michael ravaged their hometown.

“As a sustainable products company, we’re committed to social responsibility every day,” says Les Jardins USA president Frederic Raffenne. “Partnering with Delivering Good was an obvious choice for us. Portable solar lighting is crucial for relief efforts and we’re humbled to help light the way for the victims of Hurricane Michael.”
